We’ve all been trained to think of sugar as bad, but your cells actually rely on sugar (also known as glucose) for energy. Your pancreas produces insulin to carry that glucose to all the cells in your body. When your pancreas (or the insulin itself) stops doing its job, you can get diabetes. Over time, diabetes can cause heart disease, stroke, or problems that ultimately lead to amputation of your toes, feet, or entire legs. In order to avoid these terrible health outcomes, keep an eye out for these signs that you’re at risk for diabetes.
